NPTEL/SWAYAM Courses

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) was launched in 2003 by seven prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati, and Roorkee – along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Initially focusing on five core disciplines – civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and mechanical engineering – this phase saw the development of 235 courses presented in web/video format.

Accessible through an online platform, NPTEL offers 4, 8, or 12-week courses covering a wide array of topics relevant to students across all levels of higher education. These courses include foundational core subjects in sciences and humanities, supplemented with exposure to essential tools and technologies. Participation and learning in these courses incur no fees. Upon completion, participants are eligible to take an in-person, proctored certification exam, leading to the issuance of a certificate endorsed by participating institutions and, where applicable, industry stakeholders.

Objectives:

  1. Facilitating students in obtaining course certificates.
  2. Enhancing students’ employability in various industries.
  3. Encouraging students to pursue further education in suitable programs.
