RECENT ACTIVITIES

AISAT has conducted a Placement Officers’ Workshop and Entrepreneurship Conference “POWER’12” for the placement officers of different new generation Engineering Colleges in Kerala during 20th& 21st April 2012. The workshop served as a platform for the placement officers to interact and realize the present day needs of the industry and society. The workshop had participation from the leading industries and entrepreneurs who had the capacity to draw the actual picture of today's employability requirements.

The event was inaugurated by Honorable union minister for states Prof. K. V. Thomas and Honorable MLA Mr. Hibi Eden inaugurated the webportal www.engineeringkerala.organ initiative of AISAT.

The keynote address on the topic “Role of placement officers” was delivered by Dr. T. V. BabuRajendran, Former Principal, NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad.

The session I on “Effective Methodology for Soft skill Training & Development” was chaired by  Dr. P. R. Poduval, Former  Director, School of Management, CUSAT. The eminent speakers for the session were Dr. P. R. Venkataraman, Retd. Professor, St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam andMr. AjithSojan,Career consultant. The session was instrumental in addressing the needs and modes of imparting soft skills for engineering students.

The session II was on “Unexplored possibilities of Core Companiesother than IT”. The session was chaired by Dr. Jayanand B., Head, Dept. of EEE, College of Engineering Idukki.   Dr. A. Unnikrishnan, Associate Director, NPOL, Kochi explained about the opportunities and glamour in the profession of defense research and related fields. Mr. Suresh Kumar, Manager, Administration, Binani Zinc, Aluva spoke about requirements in manufacturing industry and threw light on the expectation of core companies in fresh engineers.

Session III featured discussions on the topic “Leap to Govt. Jobs & Higher Education”.Dr. V. Job Kuruvila, Former Controller of Examinations, Dr. M.G.R. University was the chair of honor. Prof. Jose Philip, Former  Executive Director, Railway Board, spoke on the possibilities of a career with the Indian Railways. Dr. N. Murugan, Placement officer, Coimbatore Institute of Technology explained about their activities towards better placement for their students.

“Opportunities and Expectations of IT Industry” was the topic for the Session IV.Er. G. Viswanathan, Course Coordinator (Projects), Institution of Engineers chaired the session.     Experts from IT industry Mr. Rajeev Mukundan, Head, KPO Solutioning, Asia Pacific Geography, TCS and Mr. Radhesh R. Menon, Product Manager, Airline and Cargo Services, IBS spoke about the expectations of IT industry. They mentioned about the prerequisites of a fresh engineer to excel in the IT field. They threw light on the stability issues in an IT profession and also guided the placement officers for bringing in campus recruitments.

Relevance of Entrepreneurship was also a topic during the workshop. Session V, chaired byProf. P. O. J. Lebba, Former Principal, TKM College of Engineering, Kollam ignited  a new thought process amongst the placement officers.Prof. G. M. Tharakan, Entrepreneurship Consultant and Mr. Abdul Majeed, CEO & Executive Director – KIED were the distinguished speakers for the session. Their expertise and knowhow was a proper guiding factor for the participants.  

The workshop had representation from 30 different Engineering Colleges within Kerala. This event has been rated as one of the best event organized by a new engineering college and the deliberations were well appreciated.
