Women Empowerment Cell

Albertian Institute of Science & Technology, Kalamassery has established Women Empowerment Cell in the college with a motto of “Marching to self empowerment” to empower and defend the rights and duties of female members; faculty, staff and students of the college. The WEC attempts to advance orientation responsiveness to promote gender sensitivity in the college and conduct diverse programmes to educate, sensitize both male and female members and produce a harmonious atmosphere on the campus. It aims for the intellectual and social upliftment of the female students and faculty towards preparing them as competent professionals to take up greater challenges in the scholarly circle.

VISION

To advance general prosperity of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the College and to provide and maintain a dignified, congenial working environment for women and enable them to explore their imminent potential in all aspects.

MISSION

To train women to acquire wide range of skills and knowledge and to develop and increase their social, economic and intellectual capacities for peace, security and prosperity of mankind.

OBJECTIVES

  • Identification of strong leadership, change-makers among women and girls and building their capacity.
  • To promote a culture of respect and equality for female gender.
  • The provision of opportunities and programs for girls and women to be financially, mentally and emotionally empowered to promote their growth as individuals in their own right.
  • To conduct seminars and workshop to impart knowledge of opportunities and tools available and train the women.
  • Arranging seminars to create awareness on the economic, social, political, and legal rights of women.
  • Organizing different activities to make women aware of their health, sports, self-defense etc.
  • Conducting various competitions to encourage their artistic talents for creative thinking
  • To highlight the importance of spirituality, health, hygiene and safety.
  • Celebration of days of importance related to women, every year
  • To inculcate entrepreneurial attitude among young girls, scientists at the earliest so that they can be “job providers” rather than “job seekers”.

ACTIVITIES

  • On 31/10/2024, at 2 pm, Inauguration of Women Empowerment cell was done by Dr. Uma V Sankar, Research Administrator, Aster Medicity. In her talk on “Embrace to Empower”, Dr. Uma spoke about the importance of women embracing their own power and potential. She said that women are often told to be humble and submissive, but that only serves to disempower them. She encouraged women to be proud of who they are and to stand up for their rights.

  • On 25/11/2023, Online Poster competition was conducted with the theme “Stop violence against women”. Many students were participated in the competition. The winner list was also published.

  • On 11/01/2024, published a poster to create awareness on National Girl Child day which is celebrated on 24th January ever year.

  • On 07/02/2024 at 2 pm, a talk on “Breast cancer Facts and Myths” was organized.The speaker was Dr. Annu Susan George, a renowned medical oncologist from Lakeshore Hospital, Ernakulam.The talk aimed to educate and empower participants with accurate information about breast cancer. Dr. Annu Susan George addressed various aspects of the disease, dispelling common myths and presenting factual information.
  • On 07/03/2024, International Women’s Day was celebrated. Self Defense Training for girls was organized in association with NSS AISAT. A letter writing competition “A letter of Tribute” was conducted in association with Literary,Quiz and Debate Club. Flash mob was also organized to celebrate International Women’s Day.
