A Technical session on ‘HAM Radio’ was conducted on 11th March 2019, Monday, 11.00 am at Seminar Hall on behalf of AISAT HAM Radio Club & Department Association of ECE. The Chief Guest for the day was an ardent HAM Shri. K.G. Girish Babu, Former CEO of Technopark, Infopark & CyberPark and was the managing director of Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited. Principal Dr Philip Kurian, Vice Principal Mr Paul Ansel V, Asst.Prof. Ms. Reshma Mary Jose, Faculty Coordinator of AISAT HAM Club, and other faculties and students of various branches were present in the session.
Shri. K.G. Girish Babu started the session by introducing the students about the basics of HAM radio. HAM is one of the most exciting, friendly, useful, educational and high tech hobbies around. He demonstrated HAM Radio by communicating with his friends in different places by using HAM equipments like HAM Multimode Transceivers, walkie talkie and antennas . He shared about HAM radio services that help people in flood-hit Kerala and in places where people were stranded and cannot communicate as their mobile phones are not working, HAM radio operators were tracking the last location of their phone’s signal. By using HAM, several people were rescued who were trapped in various buildings who cannot communicate. He also mentioned about taking license to operate the HAM and the field games using radio detection technology to find a hidden radio station inside the campus or local area called FOX Hunting, which is widely used in Amateur radio hobby conducting every year in Kerala as well as other parts of India.
The students were actively participated through interactive sessions and cleared their doubts and gained knowledge in the field of communication through HAM.
