Second and Fourth semester Electrical and Electronics Engineering students (BATCH 2015-2019 & 2016-2020) visited Pallivasal Hydrolectric Project on 20th March 2017 as part of the industrial institute interaction plans of the department.
Pallivasal PowerPlant is the first public sector hydroelectric project in Kerala. The capacity of the plant is 37.5MW. Power station is situated in a scenic landscape. The water from Kundala Dam and Mattupetty Dam reaches Pallivasal power plant through four penstocks which tunnels in Munnar into the valve house at Pallivasal . The four penstocks divide into six when they are entered into the power plant. The power plant consist of six generators of which three are 5 MW and other three of 7.5 MW.
During the visit guide gave us valuable information about the power plant, transmission and distribution. He pointed out the gap between usage and generation of electricity by analyzing the daily usage statistics of power consumption in Kerala.
