On 20th August 2016 two faculty members Mr. Arunkant A Jose and Ms. Reshma Mary Jose along with 19 students of S3 Electronics and Communication Engineering(Batch 4) were decided to visit KELTRON, Aroor as a part of academic curriculum activities. Students reached KELTRON at 1 pm. KELTRON (Kerala State Electronics Development Co operation Limited) is India’s first and the largest electronics corporation in the State sector manufacturing products in frontline segments such as Aerospace Electronics etc. At 2pm, after completing all the registration procedures, students were taken to the pneumatic section of Keltron, which is their main section. A company staff introduced about the different types of a pneumatic actuator. Pneumatics is the study of the compressed air. He also explained the parts like cylinder, isolated valve air filter regulator, damper, IP converter etc. The applications of actuators are mainly in thermal power plants. BHEL and NTPC are the major consumers of KELTRON. After that, students visited the Control Section where designing and Mechanical fabrication of Control Panels & system cabinets and the integration of subsystems, system simulation, testing were done. Finally students were taken to the fabrication unit, which consists of different machines used for cutting, bending, grinding, drilling, welding, painting etc. At 5pm students reached back at the college. The visit was informative and helpful.
