The IGS-AISAT Award, for the best M Tech thesis in Geotechnical engineering in Kerala was awarded to M. Kalyani of NIT, Calicut for her exceptional work on  ‘ Ground improvement of soft clay using compacted lime flyash column technique’. The award which comprised of a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, was presented to her, by Dr.V. S Raju, Former Director Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi during  an august function at the fourth Praphulla Kumar Lecture on October 10th 2015 at IMA hall, Ernakulam.

The event was jointly organized by Indian Geotechnical Society Kochi Chapter and Association of Piling Specialists, Kochi. Mr. M.D Nair, Chairman, IGS – Kochi Chapter , Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, Albertian Institute of Science & technology, Dr.Babu T. Jose, Patron,  IGS – Kochi Chapter, Mr.Manoj Mathew, BAI Kochi Centre – Kochi Centre and Mr. B.  Chandramohanan, Secretary, APS – Kochi were the dignitaries present for this blissful event. The annual lecture was delivered on the topic “Geotechnical Professional Practices in India-The Challenges and Opportunities – some Case studies” by Dr. V. S. Raju, an exceptional talent who has contributed to the growth of Geotechnical Engineering in the country.

pawardkumar1The selected seven finalists of the competition presented their theses before the judges for the final evaluation on 9th October 2015 at AISAT. The authors of the best five theses among the finalists were honored with certificates of appreciation. The finalists were selected from a good lot of M-Tech candidates from all over the state.
