One week short workshop on the applications of Finite element methods in civil engineering was inaugurated on 2-12-2013 at AISAT Seminar hall. Dr. P.K Aravindan, Former Professor, IIT Madras was the Chief Guest for the function. Prof.Anitha.G.Pillai, Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering welcomed the gathering. In the Inaugural address Dr.P.K Aravindan Sir focused on the relevance of advanced FEM softwares.He stressed on the fact that even though the use of software’s reduces the workload of the civil engineers, the modeling and Interpretation of the results need utmost care. He also shared his experiences in the consultancy fields. Mr. Rajiv Sharma, Technical Director, Computers and Structures India who was the guest of honor and the resource person delivered the keynote address. Course coordinator Er.S.Suresh briefed about the Idea behind conducting the course and its objectives. In his talk he pointed out that most of the civil FEM software’s are not used to its fullest potential because of the lack of efficient resource faculty. Rev.Fr.Dr. Clement Valluvassery delivered the Presidential address. Dr.Babu.T.Jose (Director, AISAT), Dr. K.E.George (Principal, AISAT) offered the felicitations. Mr. Jikhil Joseph, Asst.Professor, AISAT proposed the vote of thanks.
The Inaugural session was followed by the hands on training and technical lectures on the use of CSi softwares such as E-Tabsv2013 and SAP-2000v15 at the AISAT computer Centre. The 40 participants for course includes various M.Tech students, PhD scholars and faculties from various Engineering colleges in and around Kerala and the practicing Civil -Structural Engineers.The participants will get hands on training on CSi software’s , ANSYS, Staad Advanced , Aads pro during the course.The workshop is scheduled to be completed by 7th December. The Dept. of Civil Engineering, AISAT is planning to conduct hands on training on all advanced FEM software’s as an annual event.
