Peechi Dam Site Visit

Third semester Civil students of AISAT visited Peechi dam site on 5-10-2013. Peechi dam is a gravity dam build across the manali river. The dam is constructed to store water for meeting the requirements of the Thrissur district for irrigation, to generate electricity and it also provides ample water for the peechi-Vazhani wildlife sanctuary.

Students along with the faculties first had a visit to spillway which is meant for discharging the excess water. The arrangement for the opening and closure of spillway were visible. Hydroelectric power generation premises was the next spot of attraction,which was followed by the water treatment plant. The hydroelectric power generation was explained by the Assistant Engineer in-charge. The various methods of purification of water were well explained in the water treatment plant. After having the lunch, a visit was made to the Peechi museum where different dam models were available. Students and faculty also got the opportunity to visit the 3D model of the Kerala map, Peechi research centre and the dam prototype testing center.
