ICI-FACE inaugurated on Jan 20, 2013

On 20th January 2013, Albertian Institute of Science and Technology, Kalamassery became the prestigious engineering college to join hands with Indian Concrete Institute in providing efficient industry-academia interface for the budding Civil engineers in their pre-final years, from various engineering colleges, by becoming the venue for the pioneering workshop of ICI named Finishing Aids for Civil Engineers (FACE).

ICI-FACE will provide the student with activities to further their knowledge of the field through guest lectures, site visits and hands on experience of the knowledge gained. The workshop is scheduled on 13 Sundays starting from 20th January. Faculty will be experts from construction industry, working professionals of corporate organisations, practicing engineers, consultants and contractors.

The inaugural ceremony started with prayer at 10.00 AM. Er. Shelly S. Fernandez, Chairman. ICI Kochi Chapter delivered the welcome address. Prof. Anitha G. Pillai, Chairperson ICI-FACE and HOD, Dept. of Civil Engineering enlightened the gathering about the program. The Workshop as well as Students’ Chapter of ICI at AISAT was inaugurated by Dr.Ramachandran Thekkedath, Hon. Vice-Chancellor, Cochin University of Science and Technology. In his inaugural address, the Vice Chancellor, stressed on the importance of students learning their trade on the job and the need for adapting to the workplace as an employee. He asked the students to develop self-confidence and expressed the need to teach the students how to learn. Rev. Dr. Clement Valluvassery, Manager, AISAT, presided over the ceremony. He congratulated the students for seizing this opportunity. He explained that proper planning, diligent hard work and blessings are essential for the true success and the success attained by chance will not last long. In his felicitations Dr. Babu T. Jose, Director, AISAT opined that today 90% of jobs are in private sector where people who have the skills are in demand. Hence this workshop will enable the students to make a head start when they come out of college. Prof. K.P. Mukundankutty, HOD, Department of ME, AISAT offered felicitations. Er. Mohan Kumar, Secretary, ICI Kochi chapter proposed vote of thanks.
